Beloit Senior Christian Mears has been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athlete of the Week.

Mears had an outstanding campaign on the football field in 2023, excelling in special teams as a kick returner.  He was named a 3A Kansas Football Coaches Association All-State returner for his efforts.  Mears' latest honor was being selected to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.  The high school all-star event will take place on Monday, January 8th at 1:00 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.  Mears is one of seven Kansas players on the East squad and more info on the games can be found at bluegreyfootball.com.  His selection is well-warranted as he had 251 yards on five kickoff returns this fall, returning three for touchdowns in three straight weeks against Russell, Phillipsburg and Concordia.  Mears was also an honorable mention defensive back pick in the North Central Activities Association with 47 tackles including five for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery in his senior season.
