BETHANY SIMMELINK, Women's Basketball

Rock Hills Sophomore Bethany Simmelink has been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Girls Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Simmelink has been on a scoring tear over her last six games and set career highs in each of her last two for the Lady Grizzlies basketball team.  Over the past two games, Simmelink is averaging 27 ppg, 4 apg, 4.5 spg and 3.5 rpg.  She shot 12-24 from the floor, 26-30 (87%) from the free throw line and 4-6 (67%) from three-point land in a 44-39 win over Thunder Ridge on Friday (2/16) and a 64-46 loss to Osborne on Tuesday (2/20).  She set new career highs in both games, putting up 24 points, which included 13-16 from the charity stripe in the Thunder Ridge win.  She bettered that on Tuesday in the loss to Osborne with a new career high 30 points on 8-13 shooting, 13-14 from the free throw line and 1-2 from beyond the arc.  In the third quarter alone against the Lady Dogs, Simmelink had 14 points and went 10-10 on free throws.  She added six steals, four rebounds and two assists on Tuesday night.  Simmelink has scored 20 or more points in six consecutive games.  In that stretch, Rock Hills went 5-1 with Simmelink averaging 23.3 ppg on 52% from the floor, 56% from three (10-18) and 81% at the line (54-67).  Simmelink has been the leading scorer for the season on a Rock Hills team that started just 1-7 but goes into the postseason at 9-9.  Over 18 games this season, she is averaging 16.6 ppg, 3.9 apg, 3.7 spg and 3.1 rpg while shooting 39% from the floor, 35% from long range and 68% at the free throw line.
