Southeast of Saline & Sacred Heart Girls, Howland Claim State Titles

The Southeast of Saline girls in Class 3A and the Sacred Heart girls in Class 2A took home state cross country championships.  Smith Center's Madison Howland also brought home the individual title in the 2A girls race at Wamego.

In Class 3A at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, the Southeast of Saline girls finished with 52 points, ahead of second place Wichita-Trinity with 112.  Individual medalists from Southeast of Saline were Breckyn Alderson (11th), Piper Brown (14th), Abby Commerford (16th) and Anna Jackson (19th).  In the 3A boys race, Southeast of Saline finished in second place as a team with 73 points behind first place Wichita-Trinity with 49.  Cayden Walker (8th), Levi Allen (14th), Brayden Walker (15th) and Jacob Bircher (19th) brought home individual medals for the Trojans.

The Class 2A race at Wamego Country Club saw Smith Center freshman Madison Howland rule the course with a season-best time of 18:38.40, which was 38 seconds better than second place Avery Boydston of Ellis.  Sacred Heart took the team championship by 21 points with 85 points to 106 for Remington.  Mia Hamilton was the lone individual medalist for the Lady Knights in 14th.  From Republic County, Ellie Callaway brought home the 7th place medal.

In Class 1A at Wamego, the St. John's boys brought home a trophy with a third place finish.  Quinter won the title with 45 points as Ness City had 70 and St. John's finished with 74.  The top individual finisher in the area was Jonny Hamel of Osborne in 10th.  In the 1A girls race, Codie Huehl of Sylvan-Lucas medaled in 16th place.

Also in Class 4A at Wamego, Hannah Bridwell of Concordia finished in 16th place individually.
