Rolfs Resigns as Ellsworth Boys Basketball Coach

As confirmed by Ellsworth Athletic Director Ron Davis and reported by Tyler Henry at Salina Post, Ellsworth boys basketball coach Brett Rolfs has resigned after leading the program for the past two seasons.

Rolfs took over the reigns of the Bearcat boys team ahead of the 2022-23 season.  The previous five seasons, they went 44-55 under Ryan Webber.

In his first season at the helm, Ellsworth went 12-9.  This past season, the Bearcats had a seven-win improvement, finishing the season at 19-5 overall and 7-3 in the North Central Activities Association, which tied for second place in the league standings.

Not only did Ellsworth see a big win improvement in 2023-24, but they also made it to the state tournament for the first time since 1991.  They beat Haven in the Sub-State Championship in Hoisington to advance to their 10th state tournament in school history.  Despite having a five-point lead in the fourth quarter, they lost to the eventual state champion Wellsville in the first round in Hutchinson.

The school's search is already ongoing for a replacement for Rolfs.
