NORAH ELLENZ, Women's Cycling

Tipton Freshman Norah Ellenz has been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Fiber Athlete of the Week.

Ellenz has been having an outstanding spring in cycling with the NCK Raptors, who compete in the Kansas league of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).  Typically, individuals race based upon their grade in school, but once in high school students can petition for the higher JV and Varsity classes.  As a freshman, Ellenz was approved for the higher JV class and has competed in three races this spring, finishing in first place in all of them.  This past weekend at the Snake Farm Showdown north of Lawrence, Ellenz completed four laps on a tough 3.5 mile course in a time of 1:32.39.44, which was the fastest time amongst all high school girls in the state.  On April 21 in rural Glen Elder, Ellenz took first place in the JV race with a time of 1:22.07.63 in four laps.  The season opener was at Wilson Lake on April 7 in which Ellenz completed four laps on the 3.5 mile course and finished with a time of 1:21:25.28.

For her efforts, Ellenz is the current points leader and wears the leader's jersey for her class during the race.  Ellenz trains at the Switchback Trail at Wilson Lake.  It's a busy spring for Ellenz as she has also participated in track and field and golf for Tipton Catholic High School.

We will announce the winners each week. Remember, you can nominate an athlete from any school sport.
