
HAZEL METZ, Track & Field
Lincoln Freshman Hazel Metz has been named the NCKSSports.com/Cunningham Telephone and Cable Athlete of the Week.
Metz is off to a solid start in her high school track and field career and on Tuesday at the Wilson Invitational in Russell, she claimed three gold medals and a silver for the Lincoln team. Metz won the gold in the 100m dash with a time of 13.28, her best on the season, and followed that up with a season best time of 27.72 in the 200m dash to take the gold. Her first gold medal of the day came in the field, taking the long jump with a personal best of 15'7 1/2". Metz also finished second place in the 400m dash on Tuesday in Russell. She's won two other gold medals and two more silver medals this season so far. At the St. John's Invitational in Beloit on April 6, Metz took first place in the long jump and 200m and was part of the 4x100m relay team that took second. In the season opener at Bennington on March 31, she took home a silver medal in the long jump and finished fourth in the 100m dash.
