Francis Flax Named New Southeast of Saline Boys Basketball Coach
Since the resignation of Bryson Flax as head coach of the Southeast of Saline boys basketball program earlier this spring, the Trojans have been looking for their new leader. They did not have to go far, as Bryson's father, Francis Flax, has been named the new head coach as first reported by Tyler Henry of Salina Post.
Flax is well-known in Salina, spending 23 years coaching at Brown Mackie College. He is an NJCAA Hall-of-Famer and prior to his time at Brown Mackie, he coached nine seasons at Highland Community College. Flax started his coaching career at the high school level with two seasons in Spearville and another seven in Ellinwood before going to Highland. He also spent seven seasons as a head coach of the Kansas Cagerz professional team.
Flax compiled 612 victories at the college level and led Brown Mackie to 446 wins with six national tournament appearances and NJCAA Division II titles in 1995 and 2005.
Flax said in a statement through Southeast of Saline: "I am so excited and at the same time humbled by being selected to carry on the rich tradition of the basketball program at Southeast. SES has a history of high level coaches in all sports and I am honored to join them."
Southeast of Saline AD Doug Minneman told Salina Post: "When you can bring somebody in with the experience and knowledge that Coach Flax has, you do it. He has experience at all levels and he's had success everywhere he's been, that's somebody that you want leading your program and we think he's a great fit."
